Racing driver who starred as his father in Hollywood movie Rush dies
Edwards,
born in London, was the son of former F1 driver Guy Edwards and
recently played his father in Hollywood director Ron Howard's movie
Rush.
Edwards is currently leading the Porsche Supercup championship, an event which supports Formula 1 races.
The driver of the car, a 20-year-old from Brisbane, is currently being treated in hospital for severe injuries and burns.
Back in May Edwards won the Nurburgring 24 Hours, his first major victory in endurance racing.
The
Motor Sports Association paid tribute to Edwards saying: "The MSA is
shocked and saddened by the loss of British racing driver Sean Edwards.
This was a breakthrough year for him. He was showing what talent he
had, but had maybe never had the opportunity to actually display it
"Apart from that, he was a guy who loved life, loved racing, loved cycling, was strong and fit."
David
Coulthard, a former F1 racer and current BBC commentator, tweeted his
condolences to Edwards' family and friends, describing him as a "top man
and super talented racer".
Edwards' death follows closely that of Spanish racing driver Maria de Villota who passed away last week.
