AC Milan Name Former Player Clarence Seedorf as New Manager
AC
Milan have moved swiftly to replace the recently sacked Massimo Allegri
and, as expected, they have appointed ex-player Clarence Seedorf as the
club's new manager.
Milan sacked Allegri on Tuesday after a poor start to the season saw Milan loitering in mid-table after half of the season. The Italian coach led his team to the Serie A title in his first season as manager, but has failed to replicate that success since, only scrapping into the Champions League spots on the final day of last season.
Seedorf spent 10 years playing for AC Milan between 2002 and 2012 and won numerous awards with the Rossonerri, including two Serie A titles and two Champions League titles.
Since leaving Milan in the summer of 2012, Seedorf went to pursue a new adventure in Brazil and signed with Brazilian Serie A team Botafogo, where he continued to show his class and brilliance as a player.
Milan have taken a gamble on Seedorf knowing that he has no experience as a manager and the Dutchman will have a tough task on his hands trying to drag Milan up the table from the lowly 11th position they find themselves in.
Seedorf is excited to take up his new position and confirmed that his playing career has obviously come to a close.
“I am here to announce that I will retire from playing after 22 years.”
“It has been a difficult decision, but I am satisfied with what I have achieved in my career. Here at Botafogo I am happy because I leave the team with qualification to the Libertadores.
“I leave an improved club, especially for their mentality and team spirit.
“Yes, I will be the Coach at Milan.”
