Andy Murray's Australian Open tilt over after Roger Federer rolls back the years in thrilling quarter-final
The Caterham owner said: “We spend all this time on engines
and KERS etc but the gaps between the haves and the have-nots has made
racing boring”
Unimpressed: Tony Fernandes
Tony Fernandes has slammed F1’s double points idea as a “fake fix” for “boring racing”.
Instead the Caterham owner says that fundamental changes are needed to pep up the Grands Prix spectacle.
The sport’s rulers will introduce double points at the final round in Abu Dhabi in November.
The move follows Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel wrapping up last year’s title with three races to go.
But
businessman Fernandes said: “It’s a fake fix. What’s better is to make
the racing more compact so Sauber, Lotus or Force India could cause an
upset.
“That’s what people like to see and what is missing in Formula 1.
“We spend all this time on engines and KERS etc but the gaps between the haves and the have-nots has made racing boring.”
Fans
have reacted with widespread derision to the new points idea and Vettel
slated it as “absurd”, but it has been backed by Williams driver
Valtteri Bottas.
