Liverpool Consider Daniel Agger Swap Deal for Gokhan Inler
Liverpool are reportedly considering a move
for Napoli midfielder Gokhan Inler in a deal that could see Danish
defender Daniel Agger go the other way. The Metro believes
that Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers may just be tempted to offload
vice-captain Daniel Agger to Napoli in a bid to bring in Gokhan Inler as
an immediate replacement for the injured Lucas Levia. Former Liverpool
manager Rafa Benitez, who is now holding the reins at Napoli, is
believed to be ready to accept Inler's departure should the deal see
Agger move in the opposite direction, according to Naples Journal Il
Roma.
29-year-old Daniel Agger, who joined Liverpool in 2006 under former Reds boss Rafa Benitez, has made over a hundred and fifty appearances for the Reds and was made the club's vice captain after the retirement of long serving defensive stelwart Jamie Carragher.
Despite being arguably Liverpool's most reliable centre-back, the 29-year-old has found himself out of favour and on the bench for several games this season under Brendan Rodgers. Agger is now reaching his thirties and will not view being benched as a viable option during a period in which he should be playing as much football as possible, especially since a footballer's peak is usually the mere four years between 27 and 31.
A promise of constant playing time and a reunion with former manager Benitez could prove enough to tempt Agger from Anfield with the highly rated Swiss Gokhan Inler moving in the opposite direction.
