CARL FROCH and George Groves will come face-to-face again this week after agreeing to a rematch.
“George
thinks he should get this much and Carl thinks George should get this
much. I’m just going to get them in a room and let them go at it. Not
literally I hope.
“It’s about closing the nitty gritty of the deal now. I think we need a capacity of at least 60,000 for this fight.”
IBF-WBA world super-middleweight champion Froch already has an offer to fight Mexican Julio Cesar Chavez in Las Vegas.
“We have until February 4 to agree a
deal between Groves and Froch and if that doesn’t happen there could be a
purse bid 30 days after that. The problem we have is the very lucrative offer from Julio Cesar
Chavez Jr and HBO in America to hold a fight with him in Las Vegas.
“We’re
under a little bit of pressure time-wise, to make our decision whether
we fight George Groves, which is absolutely our priority at the moment.
“But if the contract situation drags on and on, then we may be forced into exploring the other option.”
Four football venues – The Etihad Stadium, The
Emirates Stadium, Old Trafford and The City Ground - as well as England
Rugby HQ Twickenham are being considered to stage Froch-Groves II on May
31 after their first thrilling clash ended controversially.
Froch,
36, stopped Londoner Groves, 25, in the ninth round after being decked
in the first – but the decision to halt the scrap has left fight fans
calling for a rematch.
Froch’s promoter Eddie
Hearn now plans to get the bitter rivals in the same room for crunch
talks to seal a deal before the February 4 deadline set by the IBF.
Hearn said: “We are planning to sit down this week to try and iron
out this deal because at the moment we are just going back and forth.
