Cycling: Ed Clancy's warning for big two
SIR BRADLEY WIGGINS and Mark Cavendish have been warned they will not walk straight into the GB team pursuit line-up.
But
Ed Clancy, the cornerstone of the gold medal-winning team pursuit side
at the last two Olympics, warned the pair they face a fight.
Clancy will lead the GB team pursuit squad in tonight's World Cup
meeting in Manchester. He said: "Brad and Cav have both voiced ideas
about coming back in.
"They'll have to commit to the track, not just have a road programme. It's hard to do both.
"They've
got good things going on the road and it will be up to them if they
come back or not. If they do, they'll have to fight for their place.
While the men face a battle to win tonight, the women should
cruise to victory, and possibly beat their own world record in the
process.
The women's pursuit has just increased from three riders and 3km to the men's distance of four riders and 4km.
And
nobody has been able to get close to the Brits, who set a world record
4mins 26secs earlier this month, led by golden girl Laura Trott.
