Liverpool Target Chelsea Left-Back Ryan Bertrand for January Transfer
Liverpool are lining up a January move for Chelsea left-back Ryan Bertrand, according to a story in The Metro.
Brendan
Rodgers has been struggling to fill the left-back void for Liverpool
this season with Jose Enrique battling a number of injuries already
this season and loan signing Aly Cissokho failing to adapt to life in
the Premier League as much as the Reds may have wanted.
With
Enrique being ruled out until February at the earliest, after
undergoing a knee operation, Rodgers is on the look out for a left-back
that can also play as a wing-back in the 3-5-2 formation he sometimes
likes to use.
Bertrand would fit the bill perfectly as
he has played in an advanced role for Chelsea a number of times
including when he made his Champions League debut in Chelsea's win over
Bayern Munich two years ago. Rodgers even knows Bertrand from his time
as a coach under Jose Mourinho.
Bertrand is a
peripheral figure at Chelsea and is almost the third choice left-back
behind Ashley Cole and Cesar Azpillicueta, who has played in that
position whilst Cole was nursing an injury in recent weeks.
A figure of around £8m has been mooted to prize the 24-year-old, who was tipped for big things as a youngster, away from Chelsea
