England will be without Rickie Lambert against Chile tomorrow, as the Southampton striker has been ruled because of a minor muscular injury and will face a fitness test on Sunday, ahead of Tuesday's clash with Germany at Wembley.

Meanwhile, Daniel Sturridge, who is still to take part in a full training session with his England teammates this week, is likely to miss tomorrow night's game against the South Americans, as England manager Roy Hodgson revealed his intentions of sparing the Liverpool striker ahead of next week.

"I have to speak to the doctors tonight about Daniel," said Roy Hodgson during his press conference today. "I will get an update on his condition, but the chances are he will be spared for the second game when he hopefully will be 100% fit."

The duo's absence is likely to open the door of the first team to squad to Lambert's teammates Adam Lallana and Jay Rodriguez, who could be set for their England debut against Chile, even though Hodgson refused to give any indication as to whether they would start the game.

"I'll leave it to you to work out which of the other two it will be," said the England manager.

Hodgson admitted that Celtic and Norwich goalkeepers Fraser Forster and John Ruddy could play 45 minutes each, but he refused to confirm or deny the rumours.

"It's possible, but I don't want to get drawn [on the topic].

"I haven't spoken to the players about the team. Frank (Lampard) knows and the Southampton boys know. I told them they will feature in the game."

The Chelsea midfielder will captain the game in place of the absent Steven Gerrard, as the Liverpool captain has failed to recover in time from the minor niggle he's been carrying for about a week.

"Steven Gerrard and Kyle Walker won't be taking any part in this game either because it's always been on my agenda that they will recover from minor injury problems that have plagued them and they will concentrate on the second game," continued the England manager.

"We're going to be playing two friendlies in front of incredible crowds and against two very, very good teams.

"We have great respect for Chile - we think they're an excellent football team - and everybody knows how good Germany are.

"The players who are selected will have to work very hard if we're going to maintain our unbeaten record. It's going to be an exciting couple of games."
