Shadows of journalists are seen next to a logo of the football's world governing body FIFA after a press conference on October 4, 2013 at ist headquarters in Zurich. FIFA said they could not get involved in labour issues in any country, amid calls for action after claims that dozens of migrant workers had died on construction projects linked to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. FIFA President Sepp Blatter, however said that the federation could not turn a blind eye to the reports, which also alleged that thousands of other workers endured conditions akin to

Like many other people, the FIS (International Skiing Federation) thinks FIFA and Sepp Blatter are on the wrong track by trying to stage the 2022 World Cup in the winter months rather than the traditional summer months. We all know by now the fuss Blatter has created by awarding the tournament to the Gulf nation of Qatar and there’s seemingly no end to it in sight.

The FIS is asking all of the governing bodies for winter sports to oppose a winter 2022 World Cup as the organisation feels it will harm their own sports and competitions. The FIS held a meeting on November 3 and will ask six other sports federations to join them in opposing FIFA and demanding they don’t play the World Cup in the winter.

The FIS stated, "FIS will submit a proposal to the other six International Winter Sports Federations to sign a resolution against organizing the World Cup during the winter sports season in 2022.”

The FIS is worried that the World Cup will take away sponsorships and viewers from the traditional winter sports and says FIFA should show some respect to the situation. In addition, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) is monitoring FIFA closely to see what happens since the 2022 Winter Olympics could also be affected by the World Cup.
