Jose Mourinho Given Green Light to Sign a Striker in January
Jose Mourinho has grown increasingly frustrated with his lack of production from the striker position and the Daily Mail believes he has been given the go ahead to sign a top-class striker in January.
Mourinho currently has Chelsea's £50 million man Fernando Torres, newly acquired Samuel Eto'o and Demba Ba at his disposal in the strike force. However, despite what seems like a would be productive unit from the names on the team sheet, the trio have been anything but that in the early goings of the season. The 'Special One' has seen only one goal scored by a striker over the first 10 Premier League games this season.
It is clear that with a top tier, but overcrowded midfield, Mourinho will be looking to improve his goal rate from the strikers come January. However, he may be limited to searching for players who are not cup-tied so they can compete in the Champions League. This may start to bring about speculation that Mourinho could go all in for Liverpool's Luis Suarez come January as Liverpool are outside of European football after a seventh place finish last season.
While Torres has shown flashes of quality with his performances in Champions League, his form has not translated back to the Premier League as he continues to disappoint based on the lofty expectations that were put on him after becoming the record transfer signing by any team in England. Eto'o is still adjusting to life in the Premier League and adapting to the changes in style of the UK's top flight. Although, from what he has demonstrated so far, he seems to have lost a bit of his game as he is now 32-years old and may not be up to the task of leading the Chelsea attack. Only time will tell. Meanwhile, Demba Ba has not scored a Premier League goal since his match winner against West Brom on March 2nd. The Senegal internatiola has been less than impressive since moving to Stamford Bridge. Having fallen out of favour with Mourinho, he looks poised for a January exit to accommodate Mourinho's potential new attacking threat.
