Manchester United defender Phil Jones trained with the England squad on Tuesday, providing manager Roy Hodgson with a boost ahead of the World Cup.

The Guardian reports that Jones took part in a ball work session today after previously only being able to undergo light sessions because of a shoulder injury he sustained in United's 3-1 win over Hull at Old Trafford earlier this month.

Hodgson named the defender in his 23-man World Cup squad despite the injury, citing that he was hopeful that Jones would recover in time to be fully fit for England's first game against Italy in Manaus on June 14th.

Jones is still yet to feature in full contact training because of the injury, but looks to be well on the road to recovery for the Three Lions.

Manchester City’s James Milner did not take part in the session because of a cold, while Leighton Baines missed the session due to a family commitment. However, they were the only two players missing from the 25-man squad session, which also includes young standby players John Stones and Jon Flanagan.

England play their final game at Wembley before the tournament on Friday night against Peru, before leaving the country to continue their preparation for the tournament.
