Chelsea striker Fernando Torres’s time at the club could be drawing to a close, as could John Obi Mikel’s.
The Daily Mail reported that Inter Milan are interested in signing the Spaniard, although only on loan initially before completing a £10m permanent deal the season after.
The price isn’t right
Negotiations could be held up over the issue of Torres’s wages. Inter are only willing to pay £3m a year, which is short of his current annual wage at Chelsea.
The former Liverpool striker has never flourished at Stamford Bridge, despite the massive transfer fee invested in him by the club. The once-deadly attacker has only scored 19 league goals for the club since his January move in 2010/2011.
The Mirror reported that Inter are also considering a move for Chelsea defensive midfielder Mikel. He has only started 10 games in the Premier League this season, and has fallen down the pecking order after the January signing of Nemanja Matic.
Tougher league
Meanwhile, Blues manager Jose Mourinho has said that the league has got a lot harder to win in his time away.
“Before it was Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal, and then Arsenal dropped down,” he told Chelseafc.com
“Now it’s a problem with City becoming an economical force and Liverpool coming up. It’s much harder so in that respect it’s changed.
“Champions League positions were not an issue, everything was under control from the first moment and now, when you start the season, all the big teams are at risk of not finishing in the top four.”
Mourinho also continued to question the decision not to move their Premier League fixture just two days before their Champions League semi-final against Atletico Madrid.
Sour grapes?
Chelseafc.com reported that he said: “What hasn’t changed are things that could change, because people like to hide behind decisions which have been made years before.
“The fact you have to play two days before a Champions League semi-final is something that only happens in England, and sometimes you have to change. This is one of the things I don’t really understand.”
