Boko Haram: LMC cancel league games in Maiduguri centre

The League Management Company has suspended all Nigeria Professional Football League games in Maiduguri centre until further notice.

This was revealed on the LMC's website on Friday that the suspension was as a result of the incessant security challenges in that region.

Elkaneni sports centre is presently the home ground of El-Kanemi Warriors Football Club, who got promoted to the NPFL’s 2013/2014 season which began last weekend.

"We are constrained to put on hold all league matches in Maiduguri, until further notice, due to latest security intelligence from the area,’’ the LMC statement said.

The statement further added that the suspended matches include this weekend's match between hosts El-Kanemi Warriors FC and Abia Warriors FC of Umuahia.

The LMC have also stated that the officials of Abia Warriors should await the organiser's instruction before making a move as regards their game for this weekend.

"Once again, we want to reassure clubs that decisions of the LMC at all times will be guided by the need to serve the greater good and (are) hinged on existing realities," the statement read.
