Okocha to Keshi : Avoid sentiments in your team selection
Former Super Eagles captain Austin Jay Jay Okocha has urged coach Stephen Keshi to be fair in his final selection of his 23-man squad to the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
The former PSG and Bolton Wanderers midfielder said Keshi should avoid
using sentiments to make his decision on players going to the World Cup
and also cautioned the national team on the need to be focused in
prosecuting their games at the tournament.
Okocha a Nigerian veteran,who made three World Cup appearances in
1994,1998 and 2002 advised the players not to get carried away by the
big occasion,noting that some of them will be making their first
appearance at the global tournament.
“Most of them (players) are coming onto the big stage for the first time
and they need to be fortified mentally and psychologically to prevent
them from getting carried away,” he told the News Agency of
Nigeria(NAN).
“They should play to instructions and make efforts at making their opponents play at their own pace.
“Playing at the World Cup is every player’s dream.
“Our players should endeavour to surpass the old record and bring the much-desired victory to the nation.”
