Cardiff Manager Malky Mackay Won’t Have ‘A Single Penny to Spend’ in January

Simon Lim, Cardiff City’s Chief Executive, has recently revealed manager Malky Mackay won’t have any funds to strengthen his side in January despite being under the impression he was to be financially backed as the Bluebirds attempt to stave off relegation from the Premier League.

Mackay, a formerly of Watford, has been criticised indirectly by club owner Vincent Tan for overspending this summer, and after the City boss was quoted saying he was looking to bring in reinforcements, sources close to Tan are suggesting he feels he‘s already spent more than enough.

  • ‘Vincent Tan believes due to the funds already committed, including the originally authorised summer transfer budget of £35m that rose to £50m in total, including add-ons, that the manager has been fully supported. The overspending of £15m has upset Tan greatly, resulting in the removal on Iain Moody as head of recruitment. As such, he has stated that not a single penny will be made available in January.’ - Simon Lim.

Lim also added in the statement that he club were the highest spending newly-promoted side this summer and the 7th highest in the Premier League, so they have been given ‘the best possible chance of retaining Premier League status'.

Many feel the relationship between Malky Mackay and Vincent Tan is strained to a point that could see the well-liked manager resign from the club this season, and this recent revelation is just one of many instances that has distanced the pair
