Thibaut Courtois Ready to Challenge Petr Cech to be Chelsea's First Choice Goalkeeper
Chelsea may find themselves in a tricky
situation at the end of the season as on loan keeper Thibaut Courtois
has publicly stated that he only wishes to remain at the Blues if he is
given a genuine chance at competing with Petr Cech.
The young Belgian star recently received the honour of being named La Liga's best goalkeeper for the 2012-13 season and is slowly earning a reputation as one of the best stoppers in Europe.
This is Courtois' third consecutive season on loan at Atletico Madrid and he has been a big part of their recent success both in Spain and in Europe. According to the Daily Mail, the 21-year old wants assurances from his parent club that if he is to stay with Chelsea next season, he will be given a chance to compete with Cech for the Blues' goalkeeper shirt.
Based on form alone, there is not that many keepers in the world right now that would earn a place over the Belgian international However, Cech is such a mainstay at Chelsea and at 31-years old, he still has several years left at the top level.
With Atletico leading the chase to sign him permanently, the Blues will need to decide sooner rather than later how they handle this sensitive situation.
