Galatasaray 1 - Chelsea 1: Blues miss chance to take advantage back to Stamford Bridge
LEVELER: Chedjou celebrates Galatasaray's goa
Willian
could have put Chelsea one up after a blunder from Galatasaray keeper
Fernando Muslera, but the stopper recovered to head the Brazilian's
attempted lob to safety.
But the respite didn't last long as Fernando Torres gave the Blues the lead inside ten minutes.
Andre
Schurrle fed Cesar Azpilicueta down the left and his cutback was
thumped home by Torres as things were finally looking bright in Europe
for a Premier League team.
ONE UP: Torres wheels away after scoring his ninth minutes goal
Chelsea
had a brief scare just before half time when Burak Yilmaz smashed home
from a tight angle, but it was disallowed as there were two balls on
the field, with John Terry attempting, and succeeding, to prevent the
quick throw at the expense of a yellow card.
Roberto Mancini tightened his side up in the second half and it paid dividends.
But not before Torres missed another chance to make it 2-0, forcing a good save from Muslera at his near post.
FAN FAVOURITE: Drogba was applauded by all four corners after his substitution
Chelsea had a narrow escape when Selcuk Inan somehow managed to miss from three yards, but their luck didn't last long.
Aurelien Chedjou volleyed home a corner to bring the hosts level.
Mancini's side pushed hard and Petr Cech was needed to parry a long-range strike over the bar.
Chelsea
will be more than happy with an away goal, especially given how poorly
the other English clubs have fared during this round, but it could have
been so much better for Mourinho's men.
