Frozen-out Juventus defender Martin Caceres has emerged as potential replacement for departing defender Nemanja Vidic.

United Manager David Moyes is lining up an extensive list of targets as he looks to embark on a summer spending spree to try and avoid a repeat of his atrocious debut season at Old Trafford.

The Champions' top priority is a centre midfielder, but Moyes is also keen to bring in a centre-back and a pair of full-backs to replace the ageing Patrice Evra and ineffective Rafael.

Caceres has moved into pole position in Moyes's defensive transfer list as the Uruguay international can play across the back four. With club captain Nemanja Vidic on his way out of Old Trafford at the end of the season, United are keen to replace the Serbian international and it appears they see Caceres as good value.

Juventus boss Antonio Conte will be keen to strike a deal for Caceres as the 26-year-old has fallen out of favour at the Serie A giants.

He has managed only six appearances for Juventus this season and is expected to be available for around £8m, according to talkSPORT.

The move for Caceres looks to confirm David Moyes's lack of confidence in all three of Manchester United's young centre-backs and could alert clubs to the availability of Phil Jones, Chris Smalling and Jonny Evans with rumours surrounding Rio Ferdinand's potential retirement refusing to die away. It is believed that Phil Jones is tipped to become United's long-term centre-back, however, an experienced centre-half is needed to pair with the youngster
