The 23-year-old Scot crossed the line in second
place in the 500m speed skating final after three of the four racers
had crashed on the very first lap.
But judges
reviewed the incident and decided Christie had caused the pile-up
herself, demoting her out of the podium positions completely.
But she explained she felt she had to go for broke rather than regret not doing everything to win.

“The way I race is that I can’t hold back,” said Christie, whose boyfriend Jack Whelbourne also crashed out in his speed skating final.“I used my instinct and went for it, now I am regretting it”Elise Christie
“I’m very sad about it. I used my instinct and went for it. Now I am regretting it.”
Britain’s ski slopestyle hope James Woods struggled to compete in his final after hurting a hip in training but finished a creditable fifth behind an American 1-2-3 on the podium.
“There were certainly a couple of times where I thought ‘I’m not sure I can carry on’,” he said.
“But the doctors, the physios, my coach and everyone back in the UK have been so much behind me, it would have been pretty rubbish for me to wuss out now.”
Britain’s men’s curlers beat USA 5-3 for their fourth win in five games, while the women won 8-7 against China to boost their chances of reaching the semi-finals following two previous defeats
