Jose Mourinho has mastered his Chelsea side's return to the top of the league following two straight wins over title rivals Manchester City and Newcastle United on Saturday afternoon. Despite repeatedly writing off his side's title chances, Jose Mourinho has now changed the 'three horse race' analogy into motoring terms instead.

Likening City to a 'Jaguar with L-plates,' the Portuguese boss was keen to do away with all descriptions of Premier League title contenders as horses, according to the Mail.

Arsenal were thumped 5-1 at Anfield in Saturday's early kick off and Chelsea were the only team to capitalise after an Eden Hazard hat-trick gave them a 3-0 win over Newcastle. Manchester City could only manage a goalless draw at Norwich.

Mourinho stated, "A Jaguar, you wouldn’t put an L on it. It’s time to kill (talk of) the horse.

"We are playing well. Players individually are in a good moment, we are getting results and we are top of the league. That is something that we can’t hide."

Chelsea went top of the league following their title rivals' failure to win their games and may now have to also contend with Liverpool, who sit six points behind them following their supreme performance against the Gunners.

His match winner Hazard is earning the plaudits after becoming increasingly important to the Chelsea title tilt, and Mourinho was full of praise for the Belgian.

"His performance was no different (to how he has been playing), the only difference was he scored a hat-trick for the first time. He’s had a big evolution, he’s got consistency, he’s got ambition – it’s fantastic."

Chelsea next visit West Brom on Tuesday.
