Fernando Torres netted in both halves as Hazard closed the game with Chelsea playing out to a convincing 3-0 win at the Veltins Arena this evening.

The game could not have started better for the travelling side who took control from the off with a goal in the first five minutes of the match.

Fernando Torres marked his 100th appearance for the club and couldn't have hoped for a better start by heading home at the far post after a corner was sent in by defender Branislav Ivanovic.

However, this would be one of Chelsea's few highlights of the first half with Schalke eager to get back into the match. Having obtained 60% of the possession following Torres' goal, the German club managed to get off seven shots with an effort just before half time coming closest to being the equaliser.

Kevin-Prince Boateng's long ranged shot was parried away by Cech before the Czech keeper showed some expert skill to keep out Neustadter's effort as the half came to a close. Chelsea managed to hold firm despite living dangerously and remained ahead as the second half kicked off.

Chelsea then nearly doubled their lead five minutes after play was started back up again with another headed effort from Torres. A free kick from Lampard saw the Englishman's 35-yard cross met with a glancing header by the Spaniard who's effort from inside the area came off the bar.

Then less than a minute later, up the other end, a Schalke counter attack was saved when Clemens attempted a right footed shot from outside the box that Cech dealt parried away. Ten minutes later Benedikt Höwedes' header from inside the box was directed straight at Cech once again, giving the keeper another comfortable save and keeping Chelsea in the lead.

Chelsea was then, finally, able to break through once more in the 68th minute with Torres netting his second of the night.

A fast break from deep inside the Chelsea half was met by Oscar who's pace allowed him to carry the ball and send it to Torres who took a right footed shot from the centre of the box to beat the keeper again.

After a few substitutions from Mourinho and Keller, the home side had another two efforts on goal with Clemens and Goretzka both being unable to find the target; both their shots going wide of the goal.

With three minutes to be played until stoppage time Chelsea finally wrapped up the game with another goal on the brake. An assist from Ramires found Eden Hazard who, all too easily, took the ball forward before slipping it past Hildebrand.

Jens Keller will be unhappy with his teams performance this evening and will feel that they should have capitalised on the chances that were handed to them. Missing a couple of opportunities and not taking enough time on the ball, he will feel that some of his players should have done better to score.

Mourinho's men, however, can hold their heads up high, securing a convincing away win that will see them now go to the top of their group with six points from the first three games. Torres' 100th appearance for the club will certainly not be forgotten any time soon with two great goals that secured Chelsea's win.

Steaua Bucharest's 1-1 draw with Basel has meant that the Blues are now joint first with Schalke and two points clear of FC Basel who are on four points from three matches. Bucharest remain on one.
