Top Five Serie A Youngsters to Look Out For

Very few players go onto become well renowned star footballers, even fewer who are dubbed as the next big thing do. Look at Manchester United's Anderson for one example. Yet, here I am bring you an insight into the future stars of world football, or at least Serie A, should their future not lie elsewhere.

1. Paul Pogba

Paul Pogba (L) of Juventus competes for the ball with Sami Khedira (R) of Real Madrid CF during the UEFA Champions League Group B match between Real Madrid CF and Juventus at Estadio Santiago Bernabeu on October 23, 2013 in Madrid, Spain
After his phenomenal displays for Juventus, many people are questioning why Sir Alex Ferguson let the Frenchman out of his hands.

And rightly so, the 20-year-old Bianconeri star has scored some fantastic goals, and displays great ability with both feet.

While being linked with a move away from Juventus, Pogba has also played a hand in Andrea Pirlo's recent links with a move away from Turin.

If you can edge a still fantastic Pirlo out of the team, you know you're someone to look out for.

He has been deployed out wide as of late and has still continued to impress.

2. Juan Iturbe

Argentina?s forward Juan Manuel Iturbe (L) is marked by Chilean defenders Manuel Bravo and Valber Huerta during their South American U-20 Championship Group A football match, at Malvinas Argentinas stadium in Mendoza, Argentina, on January 9, 2013 . Four teams will qualify for the FIFA U-20 World Cup Turkey 2013
In at number two is Hellas Verona loanee, Iturbe.

The Argentine is on loan from Portuguese giants FC Porto and is a key figure at Verona.

Iturbe, 20, has been likened to Barcelona's Lionel Messi with his speed on the ball and his height being comparable.

Iturbe shows lots of raw talent and should he be nurtured in the right way, could head to the dizzy heights of the Barcelona's star man.

However, he has some way to go to prove that he is a 'goalscorer' like some people say, having scored just six goals in 46 games so far in his career.

3. Stephan El Shaarawy

AC Milan's forward Stephan El Shaarawy strikes during the Champions League preliminary round football match between AC Milan and PSV Eindhoven, on August 28, 2013 in San Siro Stadium.
It seems like the Italian has been around a lot longer than he has, but the 20-year-old only broke into the Milan starting XI last season.

Just when everything seemed lost for Milan, El Shaarawy stepped up to the plate for the Rossoneri.

He scored a whopping 16 goals in 34 games in Serie A last year, a huge amount for his tender age.

As well as goals, El Shaarawy has an excellent work ethic. He drops back and helps to defend at any given opportunity.

However since the arrival of Mario Balotelli in January the striker has been on the descent.

He's still one to look out for, and has been strongly linked with a move away from the club he adores to Manchester City.

4. Mateo Kovacic

Milan's midfielder Mateo Kovacic (L) vies for the ball with Catania's midfielder Mariano Izco during the Italian Serie A football match Catania vs FC Inter Milan at the Massimino Stadium in Catania on September 1, 2013
Young Croatian star Kovacic won two league titles with Dinamo Zagreb before signing for Inter in January this year.

He was signed in the hope that he could steer Inter back to the heights that made them the club they are today, and could well do so with the potential he has shown in his short-lived career.

He is a none-stop runner who will give 110% to the cause in every single game. He has a great passing and dribbling ability, which has drawn comparisons to Croatian compatriot Luka Modric.

5. Mattia De Sciglio

Italy's defender Mattia De Sciglio plays against Mexico during the FIFA Confederations Cup Brazil 2013 Group A football match, at the Maracana Stadium in Rio de Janeiro on June 16, 2013
The 21-year-old Milan defender rose through the ranks at the Rossoneri and was quickly likened to legendary defender Paolo Maldini.

De Sciglio has the ability to play on either flank and reads the game well.

He shows experience well beyond his years despite just 27 starts in Serie A for the Rossoneri.

Honorable mentions go to

  • Lorenzo Insigne - Napoli
  • Alessandro Florenzi - AS Roma
  • M'baye Niang - AC Milan
  • Manolo Gabbiadini - Sampdoria
  • Jorginho - Hellas Verona
