AC Milan striker Stephen El Shaarawy burst on the scene last year netting 16 league goals for the Serie A outfit. He was linked with several moves to top clubs around Europe in the summer, but one never transpired and he remained with the Italian giants. Now, the Daily Star reports that Liverpool are poised to make a move for the exciting youngster.

However, there have been reports that the 21-year old Italy international is unsettled in Milan. AC Milan brought Mario Ballotelli into the squad last January and since then, the highly-rated striker has seen a reduced role with the team.

If Liverpool are to make a move for El Shaarawy, then they will have to battle stiff competition as it is a believed that a host of Premier League clubs are keeping tabs on the striker including Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham.

The Reds' reported interest in the striker is a bit puzzling considering the recent form of Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge. While the duo have formed arguably the best strike partnership in the Premier League, interest in the Italian could be precautionary as clubs will try to lure Suarez with a move away from Anfield in January. It is thought that Arsene Wenger remains keen on making a fresh bid for Suarez in the Janaury window, however, it remains unclear if he will be making an Anfield exit as the Uruguayan appears happy at this point in time.

El Shaarawy has been sidelined with injury for much of the beginning of the 2013/14 campaign, but many believe it will take £25 million to pry the striker from Milan.
