Football Manager 2014: Five Improvements Football Manager Needs to Make
Football Manager is regarded as the best
football manager simulation game of all-time, and few could argue -
except disgruntled partners.
However, a good game is not without its flaws and the previous game was no different.
So, what improvements should be made to FM14 when it comes out on Halloween?

1. Leaderboard

On the current game, the leaderboard with other FM users is judged on points which nobody really knows how to accumulate.
For certain teams, the points go up by a greater number, but for others it can take a bit longer.
As many FM users like a challenge, their success should surely be rewarded as much as a person winning the league title with the best sides in the leagues.
Winning games and having trophy success is a factor to the points people will earn, but many feel FM14 should show actual accomplishments on the leaderboard so other users can see what trophies others have won and subsequently compare for bragging rights.

2. Manager Salary

On
every game since the Football Manager franchise started, there is
little emphasis on how much you, as the manager, make in wages.
In FM14, win bonuses and international add-ons should be considered as it's something currently ignored in the game.
For achieving your set out targets, perhaps a compensatory package could be awarded to you as manager and the same for winning trophies and hitting other goals.
An idea for the new game would be having the total career earnings comparable with other users, so you have the incentive to make as much money as you can.
As Steam has the FM 'achievements', one of them you could win would be amassing a certain amount of money, so the manager salary wouldn't be an irrelevant feature in the game.
It would also mean you can check your progress with other FM users and would give people a new challenge to go for.

3. Player Instructions

Despite making the tactical instructions more in-depth, there is still a need for more intricate roles for players.
For some reason you are allowed to make shouts to your players during the matches, but such detail isn't included in the tactic instructions.
Keeping the ball, telling your players to sit back, not committing too many men to every attack and many other instructions would be useful for users.
Also, how teams defend isn’t being addressed enough as many clubs in football attack and defend in two different formations. Certainly something that should be considered for the new game.
Furthermore, where players need to be on the pitch in certain situations should be highlighted to avoid your players being dragged around the field too much.
These ideas should be addressed in FM14 as it will mean even more realism for the users.

4. Training

FM
players have never been too happy with how training is done and for
FM14, many feel there should be more interaction with the players.
Making your own training schedules with a 2d view to watching them should be considered as it would mean certain users who love a more hands-on approach to Football Manager will have more enjoyment in developing players.
The idea of selecting intense training schedules to better a player's weakest attributes was an idea they had previously pondered, but then scrapped as young players' stats greatly shot down.

5. Ability to Manage Reserve and Youth Teams

It happens in football with a number of managers who had to start from being the youth team manager before finally getting the top job full-time.
This should also be developed so people can become caretaker boss while in this role if the manager resigns or gets sacked, and then the user can subsequently have the chance to impress to get the job permanently.
