Real Madrid finally saw a glimpse of the real Gareth Bale as he scored twice and set up two others as the hosts thrashed Sevilla 7-3. However, Cristiano Ronaldo was not to be out done as he scored a hat-trick whilst Karim Benzema also notched a brace.

The two goals for Bale made it three in six games since his £85m transfer from Tottenham Hotspur in the transfer window. The total of 10 goals is also the first time in 46 years that 10+ goals had been scored at the Bernabeu in a La Liga match since the clubs 1967 victory of Sociedad 9-1.

Bale opened the scoring on 13 minutes finding the top corner with his left foot from just inside the penalty area. He scored his and Real's second goal on 27 minutes, when his free kick took a wicked deflection off the wall and beat the Sevilla keeper.

Ronaldo converted a penalty five minutes later. The penalty was awarded when Isco was upended in the penalty area.

Sevilla fought back with two goals in a minute just before the break. Sergio Ramos bundled over Diogo Figueiras to give Ivan Rakitic a chance from the spot which he gratefully obliged. Carlos Bacca rolled the ball into an empty net to give Madrid something to think about at half time.

Karim Benzema then converted a Bale pass on 53 minutes and Ronaldo also profited from the Welshman's unselfishness by scoring his second on 60 minutes. Rakitic curled in his second and Sevilla's third, but Ronaldo restored the three goal advantage with a deflected effort to complete his hat trick.

Sevilla were reduced to ten men when Stephane Mbia was given a second yellow card after clashing with Luka Modric. Benzema completed the scoring with ten minutes left. Sevilla even had time to miss a penalty as Rakitic blazed over from twelve yards.

Ronaldo became only the second player in history to score a hat-trick against the same side for four consecutive seasons. Alfredo Di Stefano had previously done it against Las Palmas.

Ancelotti said of Bale: "He played really well, showing fantastic skills. It takes time to adapt but it was a necessity. Now he doesn't have problems physically and he is improving his confidence, so he will be very important for us in the future. Tonight everyone saw the real Gareth."
