Tottenham Weigh Up Renewed Bid for Aston Villa Striker Christian Benteke
Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly back in for Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke as the Daily Mail believes the club will make a January move for the striker. Spurs were among a host of clubs who were interested in the Villains' Belgium international star this summer. It was believed Chelsea expressed interest in bringing the 22-year old to Stamford Bridge, however, in a somewhat unexpected turn of events, Benteke spurned interest from Premier League clubs and signed on a new deal at Villa Park.
Benteke signed a new four year deal this past summer, but it is expected that top clubs around Europe will come calling again next summer and pry the Villa frontman away after serving just one year on his current deal.
With this in mind, savy Spurs chairman Daniel Levy could look to get a jump on his competition and make a £28 million bid to land the striker. However, it is believed that it will take a sensational bid upwards of £35 million to lure Benteke away in January.
It appears the Spurs incredible spending spree has left them craving more as several players have not looked up to snuff in the early goings with frontman Roberto Soldado struggling to adjust to the English style of football. Soldado has only managed his first goal from open play this past Sunday in Tottenham's 2-0 victory over Aston Villa. Spurs are expected to challenge for a top four place as they strive to return to Champions League football, but it is clear that one or two January moves may be vital to them achieving there dreams.
Since making the move to England, Benteke has emerged as one of the top strikers in the Premier League and is quickly rising to the level of a top-class striker. Spurs may have to fend off interest from Roma and Juventus in January, but if they could land the highly-rated star, he could make all the difference and have Tottenham challenging for the league tittle.
