Tim Roth to portray Sepp Blatter in Fifa movie
The 52-year-old has agreed to play the controversial Swiss in a move which is set to be angled around Fifa's century-long history, with Gerard Depardieu also among the cast
Actor Tim Roth has signed on to portray controversial Fifa president Sepp Blatter in a film based around the governing body's 110-year history.The film, which is provisionally titled 'F2014', will see the Pulp Fiction star play the Swiss, while French actor Gerard Depardieu takes on the role of Jules Rimet, the organisation's longest-serving president.
Roth, who has appeared in over 60 movies, met up with his latest character prior to shooting and Blatter revealed that the pair discovered they naturally had similar qualities.
"It was a very interesting get-together," Blatter told Fifa.
"I had read a lot of the CV and all the realisations [films] that this Tim Roth has made. I was very eager to meet him, and I have just realised that really we have something in common.
"We have some common, let's say, qualities."
Despite being 25 years his senior, the 77-year-old later commented that he felt the "casting was well done".
The locations for filming will reportedly be spread across Azerbaijan, France and Brazil, with the movie expected to be released next year to mark Fifa's 110th anniversary - as well as the 2014 World Cup.
Blatter, who has been in office since 1998, recently hinted that he was toying with the idea of running for re-election when his current mandate expires in 2015.
