Championship sides Blackburn and Blackpool have been fined £5000 after a 21-man brawl broke out during the side’s league clash last month.

Blackburn Rovers striker DJ Campbell and Blackpool defender Jack Robinson were both sent off during the incident, and the fine has been issued to both sides for not controlling their players.

  • ‘Blackpool and Blackburn Rovers have each been fined the standard penalty of £5,000 after admitting a breach of FA Rule E20(a) in relation to their game on 26 October 2013. Both clubs were charged with failing to ensure their players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion in or around the 85th minute of this fixture.’ - An official FA statement.

The game itself finished 2-2, but the initial fight broke out after DJ Campbell made a dangerous two-footed challenge on a Blackpool player in the dying minutes of the game which incensed the home side.

  • ‘It's the reaction of the Blackpool players after that caused two players to be dismissed from the field.’ - Blackburn Rovers manager Gary Bowyer.

It was a fiercely contested local derby which was played in the right spirit, but the fight breaking out late on left a sour taste for many. The FA criticised both sides for their behaviour following the incident.
