England need to bounce-back and show the world what they are made of against Germany

OH how I miss the Premier League and Championship when they’re not on. And how annoying that I have to pen this column before I get a chance to see more of England as they get ready for Brazil.

I find it hard not to get depressed by Friday night’s display against Chile. I think we all know that the team that takes to the field on Tuesday against Germany will give us a better idea of what to expect from Roy’s Boys but seriously, we are only months away from the next World Cup and honestly, I’m not sure we’ve got much of an idea of what the master plan is.
I will not have anyone try and tell me there was a master plan in action in the game of Friday night - or even just a ‘plan’ - England seemed to be lacking purpose & ideas AND against a side supposedly weak at the back, which I hoped meant we’d have a run at them.
All we saw was Rooney running around frantically trying to make things happen and finding himself a rather alienated figure, too far removed from the midfield who didn’t seem to have a plan either.
I shan’t harp on about it as it was, I keep reminding myself, just a friendly and we need to see what Tuesday holds before we judge.
Problem is, “just a friendly’ is all very well - I understand players don’t want to risk injury in a game that effectively doesn’t actually mean anything, but game time ahead of the World Cup is quite important and England don’t have much.
It's time for the experimenting to cease.
Thing is, I vaguely recall after the last World Cup that we were going to take the next four years to get England’s youngsters in and to re-shape our team and here we are with seven months to go and I wonder; do any of the other nations in the top 15 in the world have so many unanswered questions about who’ll take to the pitch next summer?

“We’ve been having the Lampard/Gerrard midfield debate for as long as they’ve been in the England set up and still they seem to feature, together”
I was pleased for Frank Lampard that his 100th cap was celebrated on Friday, but frustrated in equal measure that he still seems to be so central to Roy’s plans.
Lampard’s success in his career has come as a prolific goalscorer for Chelsea in a largely attacking role from midfield.
