Chelsea Plan Sensational £60m Swoop for Monaco Striker Radamel Falcao
Jose Mourinho has been given the green
light to sign a striker which means the transfer rumours will start to
build as speculation begins to grow about which star will be donning the
Chelsea blue and lighting up Stamford bridge in January. Reports in
the Mirror lead
us to believe Mourinho will be all in for a striker in January as the
'Special One' will make a sensational £60 million move for Monaco
striker Radamel Falcao.
The move will eclipse by far Chelsea's club record and the current British transfer record of £50 million when the London side bought Fernando Torres from Liverpool in January 2011.
However, Torres has not lived up to the lofty expectations placed on him with the incredible fee that Chelsea paid for him, leaving Mourinho unhappy with his current strike force. Inconsistent play from Torres, coupled with an ageing Samuel Eto'o and an out-of-favour Demba Ba has resulted in a lacklustre strike force in the early goings of Mourinho's second reign at the helm of Chelsea.
It is believed that Mourinho's staff have been keeping tabs on Falcao's progress since moving to the mega rich Ligue 1 outfit Monaco this past summer. Mourinho will be in attendance Thursday night when Falcao's Colombian side take on Belgium in an international friendly. Keen to see how the 27-year old will fare against the strong backline of Belgium, consisting of some of the best defenders in the Premier League, Mourinho will determine if Falcao is up to the demands of the UK's top-flight.
Another factor that could influence Mourinho's interest in Falcao, is the need to find a striker eligible for the Champions League. With Monaco failing to qualify for the competition, the Colombian international star is one of the top strikers who could be available with Champions League eligibility.
