Golf: Francesco Molinari scores Seve Trophy for Italy in Europe's first win for 13 years
EUROPE won golf’s Seve Trophy for the first time in 13 years yesterday when Francesco Molinari edged out GB and Ireland’s Chris Wood in the final singles match at France’s St Nom La Breteche course.

GB and Ireland, winners of the last six contests, went into the final day locked at 9-9 with Jose Maria Olazabal’s side.
But Molinari, in the anchor role, sealed a 3&2 triumph over Englishman Wood to hand Europe a 15-13 win. Italian Molinari took victory in style, not just clinching the half he required but sinking a 12ft birdie putt on 16.
Molinari said: “Chris played well all week, so it was a good win for me.”
Earlier France’s Gregory Bourdy made history when he thrashed Scott Jamieson 4&3 to become the first player ever to take five points from five in the Seve Trophy.
