REVEALED: Chelsea tried to poach Sir Alex Ferguson from Manchester United
CHELSEA owner Roman Abramovich tried to lure Sir Alex Ferguson away from Manchester United back in 2003.
But Ferguson knocked back the Blues, who were managed by Claudio Ranieri at the time.
Fergie said: "They used an agent to approach me when Abramovich first took over the club - and I said no chance."
United's chief executive Peter Kenyon did make the switch despite claiming to be a lifelong United fan.
Ferguson was speaking in an hour-long interview with American network PBS and insisted Wayne Rooney DID ask to leave United last season.
Rooney had been linked with a move to Chelsea and Arsenal over the summer but ended up staying put.
