Clash of warriors: Daniel Bryan battles Randy Orton
It barely seems a wet weekend since the last WWE pay per view Night of Champions.
There is a more
important reason, however. There isn’t anyone better than them for the
job, a bit like when Triple H himself was racking up all those world
titles to everyone’s chagrin a few years ago. He was the right man. He
was credible, competent and brilliant at times.
Now, with his
hands more firmly on the tiller than ever before, is it any surprise
that the royal couple have centred themselves on the title storyline?
No. Because even Randy Orton could use the rub of working alongside
them, even Big Show.
As for Bryan, the intervening period has been
spent treading water. In the same way that his famed 18 sends at Mania
was the perfect comeuppance for the snivelling heel character, his
triumph in the face of overwhelming odds will be the watershed moment
for the “YES” incarnation.
Paul Heyman night have found himself lost in
the ether among all of this, had he been a lesser talent. The man who
has proved the lynchpin of the organisation so far this calendar year
has been tasked with turning the fortunes of one Ryback, and one Curtis
Axel.
Ryback might have sold a lot of merch to kids, but he has
more to do in the ring to convince many. FT for one cannot abide the
stomping about the place on the finisher. No buys.
The potential
is there, and his encounter with CM Punk this Sunday will be worth more
than a look. Punk, far left, will finally get his hands on the brilliant
Heyman, but to what end?
Battleground airs on Sky Box Office from 1am on Monday.
