Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina may be returning to former club Barcelona next summer after it was reported in the Spanish media that the Catalan club are close to agreeing a fee with the Reds for the Spanish international.

Reina is currently on loan with Serie A side Napoli, but the Italian side have shown no intention of signing the Spaniard on a permanent basis and with Simon Mignolet the first choice keeper at Liverpool, Reina will be looking for a new club when his time in Italy comes to an end.

Barcelona's current number one, Victor Valdes, has already publicly spoken of his desire to leave the Nou Camp when his contract runs out at the end of the season in a bid to take on a new challenge abroad. As a result, Barcelona are on the hunt for a new goalie and have already been heavily linked to Borussia Monchengladbach keeper, Marc Andre ter Stegen.

However, the option of signing former player Reina may be a more appealing choice for Gerardo Martino, with the 31 year old extremely familiar with the club having spent 14 years there at the start of his career.

It is thought that Liverpool will let their former stalwart leave for around £4 million.
